Maury High School (Norfolk, Va.)

Commemorative records primarily from 2008-2009 of the desegregation of Norfolk City Schools in 1959, which marked the end of Virginia's massive resistance campaign against federally-mandated desegregation. Included are histories of massive resistance and the related closures of Norfolk Public Schools during 1958-1959, records of the city commission created to mark these events 50 years later, records of various public events, correspondence, and news clippings.

One 1924 booklet titled Memories of Maury High School, owned by Elise Nusbaum of Norfolk, Virginia. The booklet includes autographs of friends, their nicknames, and future plans. It also includes autographs and advice from teachers.

Two Maury High School graduation programs for class night exercises and commencement exercises on June 11-12, 1931 and one souvenir edition of the Maury Jester published on June 13, 1981 in Norfolk, Virginia.

Family photographs and papers compiled by Harry E. McCoy, Jr. of Norfolk, Virginia. The collection includes materials on his parents, Harry E. McCoy, Sr. and Emily Minter Hope, Harry E. McCoy's childhood, professional and military career, marriage to Martha Lee Hoffman, and high school reunions for the Maury High School Class of 1940.

Photographs, commencement programs, and reunion materials of Herbert Gygi, who graduated in 1935 from Maury High School in Norfolk, Virginia. The collection also includes photographs of Gygi as a senior cadet at Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1939 and various photographs taken on September 12, 1940 in Narrows, Virginia.

This collection contains Maury High School memorabilia inserted inside of two yearbooks, The Blue Book from 1916 and The Commodore from 1917.  The official yearbook for Maury High School changed its name from The Blue Book to The Commodore between years 1916 and 1917.  The memorabilia includes labels identifying people in group portraits, commencement programs for the graduating class of 2017, and a portrait photograph of a woman holding an infant.
