City of Norfolk City Clerk 50th Anniversary of Massive Resistance Records
Commemorative records primarily from 2008-2009 of the desegregation of Norfolk City Schools in 1959, which marked the end of Virginia's massive resistance campaign against federally-mandated desegregation. Included are histories of massive resistance and the related closures of Norfolk Public Schools during 1958-1959, records of the city commission created to mark these events 50 years later, records of various public events, correspondence, and news clippings.
