This collection includes 35mm color photographic slides documenting development projects in downtown Norfolk, Virginia and in various city neighborhoods, development planning studies and projects around the city, and planning-related maps and graphics. Some aerial photographs are included. Some slides are missing.

Records relating to the planning, design, and construction of a new downtown civic center (including a city hall, courts, a city jail, and administrative offices and buildings) and new cultural center (including various public buildings and spaces) in the area near the current Chrysler Museum. Included are planning reports, City Planning Commission records, city correspondence, and internal city memorandums and documents.

Scope and Contents Construction plans for the Cultural and Convention Center (Scope Arena and Chrysler Hall theater) in downtown Norfolk, Virginia. Included are original architectural drawings, copy prints of these and other architectural drawings, and engineering reports. The bulk of the materials are from 1966 and were produced by Studio Nervi, a prominent architectural and engineering firm based in Rome, Italy. The records include Department documents, surveys and reports; aerial photographs (prints) over Norfolk and the surrounding areas; ground photographs (slides, negatives, and prints) of local areas; miscellaneous ephemeral materials; and planning-related documents and materials from other city departments and commercial entities (such as reports, surveys, and contractual documents).

Circa 1990s-2000s newsletters of Ghent and other neighborhoods/civic leagues in Norfolk, Virginia. The collection also includes booklets, clippings, and other papers from 1968 to 2009 collected by members of the Ghent Neighborhood League regarding businesses, homes, schools, and other subjects relating primarily to Ghent. Minutes include volumes 14-16 (1974-1976), 41-43 (2001-2003), 45 (2005), and an index for volumes covering the years 1962-2005.

Contains proposals for the organization, development, design and storage for the Norfolk Center for Ocean Environments. This was a Master of Architecture thesis project at North Carolina State University.

Scope and Contents This collection includes approximately 14,000 aperture cards (a computer data card with a 35mm microfilm window) that cover major development projects and related activities in the City of Norfolk, Virginia from the 1940s through the 1970s. The cards are organized by neighborhood area or project, and in some cases, sub-organized by category of activity and information (site diagrams, architectural plans, roads and utilities, etc.).
