Primarily 1930s correspondence from Mary Hope Harcum at State Teachers College in Fredericksburg, Virginia to her mother, Christie Barker Harcum, at 1055 Hanover Avenue in the neighborhood of Larchmont in Norfolk, Virginia. Also included are greeting cards, two photographs, a 1931-1932 program card, two small calendars dated 1931 and 1932, a recipe for plain cake, two obituaries, and a January 1922 clipping from The Woman's Magazine.

Correspondence, books, poems, and writings by Margaret Haley Carpenter of Norfolk, Virginia along with other materials that appear to have been collected by her, including correspondence belonging to William Stanley Braithwaite and Sara Teasdale. The collection also includes membership lists for various literary organizations and miscellaneous ephemera (itemized) that does not seem related to this collection.

Primarily 1940s-1950s photographs, clippings, and other materials relating to Walter Carl Spencer and his wife Maud Vick Spencer of 1936 East Ocean View Avenue in Norfolk, Virginia. Some of the photographs are identified from San Francisco, California and Crandon Park in Miami, Florida.
