Preston Breeden's retirement from service as City Auditor for the City of Norfolk, Virginia. Scrapbook items include newspaper clippings, photographs, postcards, correspondence, theater programs, and other mementos.

Scope and Contents Primarily love letters written by Herman D. Sawyer, Jr. to Elmarine Feagle Sawyer in 1943-1945 during his service in the United States Army in World War II. The letters document Sawyer's persistent love for his girlfriend/fiancée/wife while chronicling his everyday life as a serviceman at Washington, D.C.; Fort Benning, Georgia; Fort Ord, California; the South Pacific; and the Philippines. Primarily 1940s-1950s photographs, clippings, and other materials relating to Walter Carl Spencer and his wife Maud Vick Spencer of 1936 East Ocean View Avenue in Norfolk, Virginia. Some of the photographs are identified from San Francisco, California and Crandon Park in Miami, Florida.
