Ledgers (account books)

Two 1900-1904 ledgers from The Norfolk Landmark in Norfolk, Virginia. The ledgers contain a daily log of advertising information, including clients and costs.

One circa 1897-1902 ledger belonging to Thomas Preston Brock of Inman, South Carolina near Spartanburg.

January 1899 to October 29, 1901 box office statements for Van Wyck's Academy of Music in Norfolk, Virginia. The statements note the attraction, opposition (if any), weather, date, number of different types of seats sold along with profits, and verifying signatures.

One 1800-1803 account ledger belonging to William Vaughan (1753-1811) of Norfolk, Virginia. Also, one 1803 edition of The Book of Common Prayer, with inscriptions on the family of James Briggs Vaughan (1780-1828) of Gloucester County, Virginia and his wife Susan Hancock Hoggard (1788-1814).

Two books containing transcribed legal records of the Borough of Norfolk between 1783 and 1810. There are indexes in the front of both books which list brigs, schooners, ships, sloops, companies, and names of individuals. Many of the entries concern sea protests.

This collection consists of shipping records (lists of supplies provided to specific vessels, by date and vessel name), financial ledgers, correspondence, commercial brochures and informational items, charter/broker and legal documents, company operating records, and nautical charts.

One 1903-1904 volume from William Lamb and Company of Norfolk, Virginia, identifying date, steamer name, and steamer nationality, along with various numerical and accounting figures including tonnage, displacement, total in dollars, trimming, pilotage, towing, and water. There are 338 entries in the volume which cover pages 1-9.

Minute books, bylaws, administrative records, yearbooks, correspondence, histories, speeches, poems, clippings, and memorabilia from the Woman's Reading Club in Norfolk, Virginia. The records date from 1905-1972, with gaps in the meeting minutes from 1916-1923 and 1928-1944.
