Norfolk (Va.)--Social life and customs--20th century

Music and theater programs, newsletters, and other related materials from the Hampton Roads area collected by Joyce T. Wright from 1974-2005. Prominent programs collected include those from Virginia Opera Association, Virginia Stage Company, and Virginia Symphony.

Fourteen passes, ticket stubs, and membership cards to various venues and organizations in Norfolk and Virginia Beach dating between the late 1910s to early 1930s.  These venues and organizations included are Seaside Park, Auspices Norfolk Sleuth Club, Norva Theatre, Coral Gables Kennel Club, Ocean View Park, Virginia Electric and Power Company, Woodmen of the World Club, Loyal Order of Moose, B.P.O. Elks, and Norfolk Fair.

This collection contains Virginia Symphony programs (1974-2005), Virginia Symphony playbills (1908-2001), periodicals (1982-2001), newspaper articles (1977-2010), posters and flyers (1980-2001), and undated photographs.

Two 1920s-1930s scrapbooks created by Martha Southgate Iredell. The scrapbooks feature newspaper clippings relating to the Norfolk German Club debutantes and Norfolk society, dance invitations, calling cards, wedding invitations, theater programs from Wells Theatre, and exhibit catalogs from the Norfolk Museum of Arts and Sciences in Norfolk, Virginia.

Football and basketball programs from the 1940s-1970s featuring Norfolk, Virginia teams such as the Norfolk Neptunes.

Mid-1960s annual reports, a magazine, and notes written by Myra Brown relating to The Junior League of Norfolk in Norfolk, Virginia. The notebook contains notes written by Brown about provisional membership in the group from Spring to Fall 1966. The collection also includes printed materials relating to events and things to do in Norfolk, as well as clippings and publications on redevelopment and growth in downtown Norfolk, Virginia.

Twelve 1919 photographs, likely taken on June 23, featuring a parade in Norfolk, Virginia to celebrate the end of World War I.

Forty-nine circa 1951-1955 photographs from fundraising events of the Norfolk Community Chest, including the Uptown Division and Women's Division in Norfolk, Virginia. Fundraising took place in October of each year. Photographs were taken by the United States Army, United States Navy, and Photo Craftsmen, Inc. Some photographs include names of headlines and dates that correspond to inclusion in local newspapers such as the Norfolk Ledger-Dispatch.
