Virginiana Scrapbooks
Scope and Contents
Eighteen scrapbooks compiled by Rev. W. H. T. Squires, primarily consisting of clippings relating to people, places, and events in Virginia. There is a notable emphasis on Virginia during and after the Civil War. Series 1 consists of 15 scrapbooks that cover Virginia history generally, while the remaining 3 scrapbooks that make up Series 2 consist of clippings taken from the 75th anniversary edition of the Norfolk Virginian-Pilot on June 26, 1940. The subject matter of Series 2 more closely focuses on Norfolk, Virginia and the surrounding Hampton Roads region. All scrapbooks are indexed with the name of the headline or subject matter and accompanying page number. There is no discernible order, chronological or by subject matter, in the scrapbooks.
