 Collection — Multiple Containers
Identifier: RG 10-0000-001

Scope and Contents

Twenty-four scrapbooks compiled by Fireman William F. Barrett of the City of Norfolk Fire Department in Norfolk, Virginia. The first two scrapbooks include information focusing on the Norfolk Fire Division Band from 1936-1944 and 1947-1949. The third scrapbook consists of information on the Norfolk Fire Department's Fire Prevention Program held in 1948. The remaining scrapbooks primarily consist of newspaper clippings that cover fires, firemen (particularly their deaths), new fire equipment, accidents, natural disasters, police cases, City budget and pay, annexation, and actions of the City Manager. Some of the scrapbooks created during World War II contain clippings about the War. There are some gaps in the scrapbooks; years covered include 1936-1945, 1947-1954, 1956-1957, 1959-1960, 1968, and 1972.
