Primarily 1960s-1970s reports, correspondence, minutes, memorandums, and other materials belonging to John S. Thiemeyer, Jr. relating to the formation of Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia. The collection includes administrative records of the Mayor's Advisory Committee On the Establishment of a Medical College in the Tidewater Area and the Committee on Academic Policies and Procedures. It also includes materials related to the Joint Committee on House Staff Procurement and Education and memorandums of the EVMS Planning and Development Committee. Thiemeyer's papers also include publications about building medical school facilities, personal essays written based on his experiences in helping to create EVMS, and personal correspondence between him and other EVMS stakeholders.
